A journey to bitter sips

A journey to bitter sips

Coffee is a mysterious drink that began thousands of years ago in the highlands of Africa. Legends tell that Abyssinian shepherds discovered the secrets of this magical bean by the joy of their sheep after eating the coffee fruit. Coffee traveled from the Arab world to Europe and then around the world, becoming part of global culture.

Coffee beans are divided into two main types:

  • Arabica has a milder flavor, higher acidity, and a complex aroma. This type of coffee is mostly grown at higher altitudes.
  • Robusta has more caffeine, a more bitter flavor, and a stronger body, and is usually grown at lower altitudes.

Green coffee beans and the roasting process:

Green coffee beans are essentially raw beans that are harvested, processed, and then prepared for roasting.

Roasting degrees

  • Light: Light color, high acidity, fruity and herbal flavor.
  • Medium: Balance between flavor, acidity and bitterness. The most popular type of roast.
  • Dark: Dark color, more bitterness, less acidity, with a smoky and chocolate flavor.

Coffee processing machinery:

Several devices are used in the coffee making process:

  • Roaster: For roasting beans.
  • Grinder: For grinding beans.
  • Espresso machine, French press, pour-over, Aeropress, etc. for brewing coffee

Differences between coffee types:

Espresso: A strong coffee with an intense aroma and flavor.
Americano: Espresso diluted with hot water.
Latte: Espresso with steamed milk.
Cappuccino: Espresso, milk, and milk foam in equal proportions.
